SALISBURY, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-6) struggled in a pair of losses on the opening day of the Catawba Invitational Softball Tournament, Friday afternoon. The Lady Rams opened the day with an 11-3 loss to the Davis & Elkins Senators (1-0), followed by a 6-3 loss to the Shippensburg Raiders.
The Lady Rams opened the day with a tough 11-3 loss against Davis & Elkins that saw the team manage just one earned run and two unearned runs. Sophomore pitcher Tiffany Burgess took the pitching loss, allowing 12 hits. The Lady Rams struggled at the plate with eight strikeouts.
The WSSU struggles continued in the second game with 6-3 loss to the Shippensburg Raiders. WSSU senior infielder Kayla Woodbury knocked in a home run with two-RBI while sophomore outfielder Shantel Haskins added a single.
