WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem State sophomore pitcher Brittany Lane threw a perfect game to lead the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (18-11, 11-1 CIAA) to an 11-0 win over the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons (0-22, 0-10 CIAA), Friday. The Lady Rams dominated every aspect of the game to score their eighth straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) win.
Lane (11-5) was perfect in the game with no hits allowed and no walks allowed while the Lady Rams defense stepped up its efforts as well with no fielding errors in the win. Offensively, the Lady Rams broke out as well with nine hits in the game and scoring 11 earned runs in the game. Sophomore infielder Britney Cato led the way for the Lady Rams with a two-for-three effort at the plate with two runs scored and a pair of RBI. Senior infielder Kayla Woodbury added a solo home run and two runs scored as well.
The Lady Rams did all of their damage in just two separate innings with seven first-inning runs and four fourth-inning runs. In the first inning, the Lady Rams scored on four straight RBI hits to jump out to the early lead. In the fourth inning, it was Woodbury who got things started when she led off the inning with a solo home run. Freshman hitter Hope Billings added a three-RBI double to cap the WSSU scoring.
