WINSTON-SALEM, NC – A new era in Winston-Salem State University women's basketball is set to begin when the Lady Rams host the Mars Hill Lions (0-1) in their season opener at the C.E. Gaines Center, Monday evening. For the second time in the last three seasons, the Lady Rams will open their season with a new head coach at head coach A.G. Hall leads the revamped team in their first regular season game of the year.

The Lady Rams will look for a strong start to the season when they take on the Lions in their first home opener since 2006. After posting 35 wins over the past two seasons, the Lady Rams will look to keep things going this season, starting with a strong effort in the season opener against the Lions. Last season, the Lady Rams posted an 18-11 record, but will be without the services of former starters Courtney Medley, Jasmine Newkirk, and Jordhan Peterson. The team will return with senior forward Schatavia Gray and sophomore forward Dionna Scott, who both had impressive efforts at High Point. Gray totaled eight points and nine rebounds against the Panthers while Scott led the Lady Rams with nine points.

Facing the Lady Rams will be a Mars Hill team that will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 84-54 loss to Limestone, Friday in their season opener. The tandem of sophomore forward Armeka Booker and senior guard Kristen Metcalf led the way for the team with 14 points and 12 points respectively.
