Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (16-15, 8-1 CIAA, 3-0 CIAA South) took advantage of their opponents miscues in a 13-1 win over the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos (5-31, 5-4 CIAA), Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Rams scored took advantage of seven errors by the Lady Broncos to score seven unearned runs in the victory.
The Lady Rams got things going early with a first-inning run, followed by seven second inning runs. WSSU freshman infielder Monet Daly stole home for the opening score of the game. WSSU broke things open in the second inning when four FSU fielding errors led the seven WSSU runs in the inning. Though the Lady Rams would scoreless in the third inning, the team would score five runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The team would hold the Lady Broncos to just one fifth-inning run to take the victory.
Though the Lady Rams took advantage of several FSU miscues, the team also put on a strong offensive effort in the game with nine total hits in the game. WSSU freshman Brittany Rich led the way with a pair of hits in four at-bats with a triple, a double, and two runs scored in the game. Rich was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle in the dominating win.
WSSU sophomore pitcher Yasmin Lee (8-9) took the pitching win, going all five innings with six hits allowed and three strikeouts.
