Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams turned up their offense to score a 9-3 win over the Davis & Elkins Senators, Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Rams played well on both sides of the ball to take the win. The Lady Rams broke out for nine runs to take home the victory.
The Lady Rams gave a great overall effort in the game with seven hits while holding the Senators to just three hits. WSSU junior catcher Nikki Lynch led the way for the Lady Rams with a two-for-four effort at the plate with three RBI and a pair of runs scored in the win. Three more WSSU players recorded an RBI each as well.
The first inning was a slow one for the Lady Rams as the team allowed an opening run to the Senators on an RBI double. However, the Lady Rams bounced back to tie the game in the second inning when junior Francesca Edgerton scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Rams broke things open in the third inning when the team scored four third inning runs. Lynch kicked things off with an RBI double that scored sophomore infielder Tanaya Pettus. Freshman pitcher Monet Daly also scored an unearned run on a Senators throwing error. The Lady Rams capped the inning with back-to-back RBI singles by junior Britney Cato and sophomore Andreya O'Brien.
After allowing a pair of fourth inning runs, the Lady Rams broke out once again in the sixth inning when Lynch hit a two-RBI single while a Senator dropped fly ball and a wild pitch allowed the Lady Rams to push their final lead to 9-3 and seal the victory.
WSSU freshman pitcher Monet Daly picked up the pitching with, going five innings and allowing just three hits. Junior Tiffany Burgess picked up the save, allowing no hits with no walks in the game.
