Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams couldn't quite find the answers in a tough 13-4 loss to the Davis & Elkins Senators, Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Rams struggled on both sides of the ball in the tough loss to the Senators in game two of their doubleheader.
The Lady Rams managed just five hits in the game while allowing the Senators to rack up 10 hits and score 13 runs in the game. WSSU sophomore Tanaya Pettus had a solid effort in the game in spite of the team's struggles. She went two-for-three from the plate with a run scored and three RBI in the game.
Things got tough early for the Lady Rams as the team allowed eight unanswered runs in the first two innings of the game to fall into an 8-0 deficit heading into the third inning. However, the team broke out for four third inning runs to cut their deficit in half. Pettus recorded all three of her RBI on one swing of the bat when she hit a three-RBI triple to clear the bases. Junior infielder Nikki Lynch added an RBI sacrifice fly that added the sole other run of the game for the Lady Rams. The Senators answered the WSSU run in a big way with five fifth-inning runs that left the Lady Rams trailing 13-4. With WSSU unable to score in the fifth inning, the Lady Rams ended the day with the 8-run rule loss.
WSSU sophomore pitcher Yasmin Lee took the pitching loss for the Lady Rams. Junior Tiffany Burgess added one and two-thirds innings of action as well.
