WINSTON-SALEM, NC – It took a tremendous effort, but the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (12-10, 11-2 CIAA) were able to battle their way past the scrappy Saint Augustine's Falcons (7-11, 7-6 CIAA). The match was a see-saw battle with momentum swinging to both sides of the court. In the end, the Lady Rams prevailed by scores of 25-9, 22-25, 25-16, 22-25, and 15-11.

The Lady Rams opened the match on a high note with a dominating 25-9 win in the opening set, but found themselves in a battle with a 22-25 loss in the second set. The momentum swing kept going in the third and fourth sets with the Lady Rams taking another dominating 25-16 win, followed by another 22-25 loss in the fourth set. In the fifth and final set of the match, the Lady Rams battled their way back from a 9-10 deficit for a 6-2 run to close out the match win.

As a team, the Lady Rams totaled an impressive 54 kills with just 26 attack errors in the match. WSSU junior right side Olivia Owens led the way with 17 kills and six total blocks (one solo) in the match. Senior outside hitter Avoni Seymour added 11 kills while senior outside hitter Katelin Wensley added 12 kills. Junior setter Kayla Brass coordinated the effort with 42 assists. Junior middle blocker Darrisa Jones led the WSSU defensive effort with seven total blocks (none solo).

With the win, the Lady Rams remain on top of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division and snap a four-match skid. The team will return to action, Thursday evening when the team hosts the Livingstone Blue Bears in another key CIAA Southern Division match.
