Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State had five players score in double figures, including Demone Harrison who scored a game high 20 points, as the Rams rolled past Morris College 97-87 at the CE Gaines Center on Tuesday evening.
The win moves the WSSU Rams to 3-2 overall on the young season, while the Hornets of Morris College fall to 2-4.
After a back and forth first few minutes of the game, the WSSU Rams took control of the game and used a 38 to 18 run to close the first half to move out in front by 15 points at the half, 49-34.
Morris College started the second half hot, burying some long range three pointers, but the Rams defense and length would take over and gave WSSU some cushion and that they were able to maintain.
The Hornets cut the WSSU lead to eight points on three different occasions, but each time the Rams had an answer.
Winston-Salem State pushed their lead to a game high 19 points at 95-76 with 3:13 left to play, before Morris College made one last run to cut the lead to 10 with under a minute left.
The Rams were able to keep the Hornets from getting any closer, and came away with a 97-87 win.

Demone Harrison scored 20 points, to go with three rebounds, two assists and a steal, while Keith Armstrong added 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots. William Crandell finished with 13 points and four rebounds and Carlos Rankins added 12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal. Rayvon Harris and TJ Wilson chipped in 10 points each, with Wilson also adding five rebounds, and Harris adding two steals. Jamel McAllister scored five points and Jerome Simmons and Tehvyn Brantley each scored four points. CJ ford added two points.
Winston-Salem State will now hit the road for the first time this season, as the Rams will travel to Richmond, VA for a Friday evening matchup with the Panthers of Virginia Union. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00pm at Barco-Steven Hall on the Virginia Union campus.
