Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (2-0) had to fend off the hard-charging Kutztown Golden Bears (1-1) to claim a 3-2 win at the 2nd Annual Spike Out Hunger Challenge, Friday evening. After claiming a pair of wins in the opening two sets, 25-10 and 25-22, the Rams had to fend off a late charge from the Bears and falling in the next two sets, 21-25 and 21-25, before closing out the match with a 15-13 fifth-set win.
As a team, the Rams had a solid overall match. The team totaled 54 kills in the match along with 31 total blocks (one solo). WSSU sophomore Mia Herrod led the way with 13 kills in the match while senior Teynia Shepherd added 11 kills. Senior middle blocker Jocelyn Mills rounded out the effort with 10 kills and five total blocks (none solo).
