Winston-Salem, N.C.  – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team defeated Claflin University 3-1, inside Whitaker Gymnasium. 

The Rams improved to 12-9 (9-3 CIAA) on the season.

How It Happened vs.Claflin University (25-13, 25-19, 25-12, 25-18)

In set one, a Zoe Chesson kill gave the Rams a 4-1. A Kamiyah Wilson kill extended the Rams lead to 8-3. The Panthers cut the lead down to 14-10, on a kill. WSSU went on a 4-1 run, taking a 18-11 lead on a Zoe Chesson kill. WSSU closed out the set on 6-2 run, taking set one 25-13.

In set two, the Rams took a 3-0 lead on Claflin attack error. WSSU extended their lead to 8-2, on a Celina Johnson ace. The Panthers went on a 5-1 run, cutting the lead to 9-7. Claflin tied the game at 14-14. The Panthers extended their lead to 18-15, on a Rams attack error. WSSU went on 3-0 run, trimming the lead to 22-19, on Panthers attack error. Claflin took set two 25-19.

In set three, the Rams took a 4-3 lead, on a Claflin attack error. The Rams went on 6-0 run, taking a 12-6 on a Jewel Pitt ace. The Rams extended their lead to 17-8 on a Panthers attack error. The Rams took set three 25-12.

In set four, a Zoe Chesson kill gave the Rams a 3-1 lead. The Rams went on a 4-0 run, taking a 10-5 lead on a Holiday Ellis kill. WSSU extended their lead to 14-7 on Panthers attack error. Claflin went on a 3-0 run, trimming the lead to 17-13. WSSU went on a 4-0 run, extending their lead to 23-15, on Kalyn Cuthbertson ace. The Rams took set four 25-18.
