Emilio Abreu's Two-Run Home Run Paces Rams Over Crimson Hawks

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Emilio Abreu hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, and that's all the Rams needed as they were able to hold off the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in game one of today's double-header, 2-1.

With the win, Winston-Salem State improves to 7-11 overall, while IUP falls to 3-5 on the 2017 season.

With one out, Brandon ford would single to left field. Emilio Abreu would come to the plate, and blast a two-run home run to left field to give the WSSU Rams the early 2-0 advantage.

The Rams and the strong pitching form Kanoa Hironaka, were able to keep the Crimson Hawks off the scoreboard, until the fifth inning, when IUP would finally get on the board.

IUP would get a base runner on a WSSU error, and he would get home on a single and error, cutting the score to 2-1.

IUP would threaten in the seventh inning, but a Ram double play on defense would thwart any chance for the Crimson Hawks, as the Rams would get the final out and take game one, 2-1.

Brandon Ford went 1 for 3 with a run scored and Emilio Abreu went 1 for 2 with a run scored and two runs batted in to pace the Rams. Abreu's two rbi's came on his two-run home run.

Kanoa Hironaka pitched a gem, throwing a complete game allowing five hits and one run, while striking out three.
