WSSU Rams Stifle The Anderson Trojans, 7-2

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State got six runs batted in by Ivan Acuna, Emilio Abreu and Landon Steiner and Seth Reeves kept the Anderson Trojans under control, as the Rams came away with a 7-2 win on Saturday afternoon, at a game played at Finch Field in Thomasville, NC.

With the win, WSSU improves to 27-13, while Anderson is at 13-30 on the season.

Anderson jumped out quick and s cored a first inning run.

WSSU answered in the bottom of the first, after back to back singles to start the inning, Randy Norris stole second and went to third on the bad throw to try to pick him off. Ivan Acuna singled scoring Norris and then Emilio Abreu singled allowing Ford to score.

No other runs would be scored until the seventh inning, when Anderson had a run cross the plate, and the Rams answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Ivan Acuna singled scoring McNamara, and Landon Steiner singled to center, scoring Norris and Ford. John Garcia walked later in the inning, scoring Acuna, to give WSSU a 6-2 lead.

The Rams picked up another run in the eighth, when Trevor Poole reached on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Emilio Abreu doubled to left field, allowing Poole to score, and the Rams would take the game, 7-2.

Emilio Abreu finished 2 for 5 with two runs batted in and Landon Steiner went 1 for 5 with two runs batted in. Ivan Acuna went 2 for 4 with a run scored and two runs batted in and John Garcia also picked up a run batted in. Randy Norris went 2 for 4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Brandon Ford finished one for four with two runs scored. Michael McNamara went one for four with a run scored and Trevor Poole also scored a run.

Seth Reeves picked up the win for WSSU, going 5.1 innings allowing six hits and one earned run, while walking three and striking out six on the afternoon. Jordan Carlton pitched 2.2 innings, and Landon Stiner pitched the ninth.
