Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-4) could not overcome several defensive struggles when the team took a 15-0 loss to the Alderson Broaddus Battlers (3-2), Sunday afternoon. The Rams gave a strong effort overall effort in the game, but the team could not get past a fourth inning debacle that cost them the game.
The team's one bad inning aside, the Rams played a solid overall game. The team held the Battlers to just eight hits while managing four of their own. However, nine fielding errors proved to be too much for the Rams to overcome. WSSU junior designated player Alleshia Pullen led the way for the Rams with a two-for-two performance at the plate. Senior second base Daijah Chambers added a one-for-two batting effort with a double.
The Rams were able to show some strong signs of solid defense early in the game. The team held the Battlers scoreless for the first two innings of play before allowing four third inning runs to the Battlers. It was in the fourth inning when things got really tough as the Rams allowed 11 runs to the Battlers. The inning included five WSSU fielding errors. From there, the Rams were able to straighten things out as they held the Battlers scoreless for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately, the Rams could not get their offense going as they finished the game with the 15-0 loss.
WSSU junior pitcher Tia Robinson (0-3) took the pitching loss. She finished the game with 15 runs allowed (two earned) on eight hits. She recorded three strikeouts.
With the loss, the Rams fall to 1-4 to open the season. The team would close out the day against the host Mount Olive Trojans. For more information on Rams softball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
