SALEM, Va. – On Saturday evening, the Winston-Salem State University volleyball team was swept by Shaw University (15-25, 20-25, 22-25) getting eliminated from the CIAA tournament.
The Rams finished the season 15-15.
Shaw swept Winston-Salem State on two late surges, giving the Lady Bears a 2-0 lead. In the first set, the Lady Bears scored 10 consecutive points to break away from a 14-14 tie. The second set was similar: Shaw scored nine straight points to erase a 20-16 deficit and win 25-20. The third set was all Shaw as the Lady Bears led 15-6 on their way to victory.
CIAA Offensive Player of the Year Noelani Beard sparked Shaw (23-7 overall) with 11 kills, 10 digs and two aces. Mallory Brown added 10 kills and two aces and Ilani Myers finished with eight kills and 10 digs.
Two-time CIAA Setter of the Year Breelyn Clark accumulated 33 assists, eight digs and a block for the Bears.
For the fourth seed Rams (15-15 overall), Sanaa Lanier contributed 11 kills and Breona Young finished with 10 kills. Brooke Norwood handed out 12 assists and added nine digs.
