FAIRMONT, W. Va. –
Amaya Tucker led the Rams with 29 points as the Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team defeated Concord 66-55 Saturday afternoon to conclude the Fairmont Tournament.
The Rams moved to 1-1 on the season.
Tucker finished with a season-high 29 points, five rebounds, four assists, and seven steals. Hadiya Balser also scored in double figures, finishing with ten points.
Taniah Wilkins and Jakaiya Mack both finished with seven rebounds each.
Concord opened up the game on a 6-0 scoring run before
Amaya Tucker hit a three-pointer with 5:05 remaining in the quarter. The Rams eventually took a 7-6 lead with 2:59 remaining in the quarter and finished on a 7-0 run to end the quarter up 20-13.
The Rams kept the intensity going in the second quarter going into the half leading 38-33.
Both teams were tied 44-44 with 3:37 remaining in the third quarter. A steal from Hadiya Balser resulted in a put-back jumper giving the Rams a 46-44 advantage. WSSU finished the quarter up 50-47.
Outscoring Concord 16-8 in the fourth quarter helped the Rams secure the 66-55 victory.
Winston-Salem State University is back in action at home in the C.E. Gaines Center on Wednesday, November 16th taking on North Greenville University at 5:30 p.m.
