Men’s Basketball Defeats Le Moyne in Overtime, advance to the Winner’s Bracket of the Gary Miller Classic

ERIE, Pa. – The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team advance to the Gary Miller Classic championship round after defeating Le Moyne in a thrilling overtime win 83-81 Saturday night inside the Hammermill Center on the campus of Gannon University.

Jaylon Gibson led all players with a game-high/season-high 30 points. He also added eight rebounds on the night. Samage Teel finished with 14 points and Jaylen Alston finished with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Isaac Parson also scored in double figures finishing with 13 points.

WSSU led 7-6 at the under-16-minute media timeout. Jaylon Gibson hit back-to-back jumpers to give the Rams an 11-6 lead with 14:29 to go in the half. Jeremy Dixon hit a three to give the Rams a 14-10 lead with 12:36 to go in the half. Le Moyne tied it at 16-16 before Dixon hit another three to give the Rams a 19-16 lead with 9:52 left to play in the half. The Dolphins took their first lead of the night, 20-19 with 8:53 to go in the half.

Jonathan Hicklin hit a jumper to give the Rams a one-point lead (21-20) at the 8:06 mark. The Dolphins had a one-point lead (24-23) with 3:57 left to go in the half. Xavier Fennell tied the game 24-all with a made free-throw with 3:51 left in the half. Winston-Salem State University's Jaylon Gibson hit back-to-back threes and a lay-up to give the Rams a 32-24 lead with 1:33 to play in the half. WSSU went into the half leading 34-27.

Samage Teel hit a jumper with 15:39 to play in the game to go up 40-33. The Rams went up double figures (44-33) after a lay-up from Jaylen Alston with 14:13 left in the game. Jonathan Hicklin hit a three with 13:14 to go to give Winston a 49-35 lead over Le Moyne.

The Rams went up 12, 49-37 with 11:32 remaining in the game. Samage Teel had a steal which turned into a made lay-up from Jaylon Gibson to give the Rams a 62-48 lead with 5:57 to go. The Dolphins cut within ten (66-56) at the last media timeout. The Rams were up seven, 67-60 with 1:55 left to play in the game. Zy'Ever Wingfield hit a couple of lay-ups to bring the Dolphins within five (69-64) with 59 seconds left in the game. Luke Sutherland hit a three in 33 seconds to trail 70-67 to the Rams.

Jaylen Alston hit a free-throw to give the Rams a 71-69 lead and then Samage Teel had a steal forcing the Dolphins to foul with 9.4 seconds in the game; he made the free-throw to give the Rams a 72-69 lead. Michael DePersia hit a three to force overtime.

Isaac Parson hit a three with 1:27 to go in overtime to give the Rams an 81-77 lead. Luke Sutherland hit another three to cut into the Rams lead (82-80) with 15 seconds left in the game. Jaylen Alston secured the game with a free throw to give the Rams an 83-81 victory.

The Rams will be back in action tomorrow, November 26 playing Lake Erie at 7:30 p.m. inside the Hammermill Center on the campus of Gannon University.
