WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team remains undefeated inside the C.E. Gaines Center this season after winning their conference opener 79-61 over Lincoln University (Pa.).
 
The Rams moved to 5-3 (1-0 CIAA) while the Lions moved to 5-6 (0-1 CIAA).
 
Amaya Tucker led all scorers finishing with 19 points. She also had five rebounds and two steals. Valenica Carroll finished with 17 points, while Jakaiya Mack scored 14 rebounds and led in rebounds with six.
 
WSSU opened the first quarter on a 13-4 scoring run before the Lions cut within four to end the quarter 15-11. With 9:16 remaining in the second quarter the Rams led by ten, 21-11. Valenica Carroll hit a jumper and three to give the Rams a 26-13 lead with 6:55 to play. The Lions kept within ten points for most of the second quarter but some costly turnovers helped the Rams go into the half leading by 15, 42-27.
 
With 6:58 to play in the third, the Rams had increased their lead by 24 (51-27). Amaya Tucker hit a three-pointer and Jakaiya Mack hit a jumper to give the Rams their largest lead, 29 (56-27) with 4:39 remaining in the quarter. WSSU ended the third quarter up 60-33.
 
WSSU shot 7-for-18 from the field in the fourth and scored a total of 36 points off of turnovers to defeat Lincoln 79-61.
 
The Rams continue their CIAA home swing by hosting Virginia Union on Saturday, December 17 at 2:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
