WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team fell to Virginia Union 69-60 Saturday night inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
The Rams are now 5-4 (1-1 CIAA), while the Panthers improved to 6-4 (1-0 CIAA).
Amaya Tucker led the way with 17 points, four rebounds, and three steals.
Jainaya Jones added 11 points with four assists and
Kendra Ross also scored in double figures with 10.
Kennedi Simmons,
Taniah Wilkins, and
Valencia Carroll all had seven rebounds in the contest.
Even though VUU scored the first two points, the Rams went on a 9-4 scoring run to take the lead with 7:06 left to play in the first quarter. They ended the quarter tied at 13-all.
VUU went up 20-16 with 8:28 left to play in the half.
Kennedi Simmons hit a jumper to tie the game again at 22 but the Panthers went into the half up six, 30-24.
The Panthers went up 38-30 in the third before the Rams used an 11-2 scoring run to tie the game at 41. The Panthers ended the quarter up 46-45. Both teams were tied at 49 with 8:21 remaining in the game. Virginia Union outscored the Rams 22-15 in the fourth to win 69-60.
WSSU will host Bowie State on Monday, December 19th at 5:30 inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
