WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team defeated Bowie State, 54-48 Monday night inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
WSSU improved to 6-4 (2-1 CIAA), while Bowie State moved to 6-5 (2-1 CIAA).
Taniah Wilkins led the Rams with a double-double, 18 points, and 10 rebounds. She also added two steals on the evening.
Kennedi Simmons also scored in double figures, finishing with ten points.
Amaya Tucker had seven points and four assists, while
Erin Hall also finished with seven points.
Bowie State opened up the game on a 9-2 scoring run before the Rams answered back including a three from
Amaya Tucker to end the quarter tied at 11-all. The Rams took the lead in the second quarter eventually going up six with 1:06 left in the half and WSSU went into the half up eight, 28-20.
With 6:15 to play in the third, the Rams went up 9,(31-22) on a made free-throw from
Taniah Wilkins. Winston finished the quarter up 11, 40-29.m Even though Bowie out-scored WSSU 19-14 in the fourth, the Rams finished the game up six to win 54-48.
The Rams will be back in action on December 31st at Glenville State College.
