Box Score SALISBURY, N.C.- A couple of scoring runs in the second quarter allowed the Winston-Salem State women's basketball team to overcome a 12-point deficit, but the Rams couldn't find any third-quarter consistency and lost 73-55 in a road game at Livingstone Saturday afternoon. The Rams concluded the regular season 11-12 overall and 7-9 in CIAA play.
Amaya Tucker led 'SU in scoring and rebounding with 13 points and six boards. Brooke Spaulding scored nine points, Tyliah Burns scored seven, while Erin Hall and Kendra Ross each added six points.
The two teams had nearly identical shooting percentages. WSSU shot 41.7%, and the Blue Bears hit 41.9%. Each team had four three-pointers. Livingstone was 17-26 from the free-throw line. The Rams only went 16 times, hitting 11.
Livingstone scored the game's first 12 points and bolted to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter. The Rams responded in the second quarter by outscoring the Blue Bears 22-15 and trailed by only five points at halftime. A slow start after intermission eventually proved to be more than 'SU could overcome.
WSSU trailed 55-38 entering the game's final 10 minutes. The Rams were outscored by only one point in the fourth quarter.
Winston-Salem State opens play on Tuesday with a 2:20 tip against St. Augustine's in the CIAA Tournament in Baltimore. The two teams split during the regular season. All WSSU tournament games will be broadcast on the University's campus radio station, WSNC 90.5 FM.
