Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- It was a doubleheader victory for the Winston-Salem State softball team on Saturday afternoon at Twin City Ballfield Complex.
The Rams move to 3-5 on the season, after winning both games with a score of 9-1; while Bluefield falls to 2-14.
How it Happened -Game 1
- The Big Blue got their lone score in the top of the first after a single from Emma Crawford who scored Kennedy Warbritton.
- The Rams took over from there starting with a double from Malia Simmons, and a single to shortstop from Kendall Hudson to give the Rams a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first.
- In the second inning, Simmons had her second double of the game scoring two runners on base to give the Rams a 4-1 lead. Then, Teanna Davis hit a single to right field scoring SeQuoia Wingfield to give the Rams a 5-1 lead.
- After no runs came across in the third, the Rams maximized the opportunity and took over in the fourth and fifth inning. First, the Rams scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-1 lead. Then, in the bottom of the fifth, while bases were loaded, an RBI walk from Wingfield gave the Rams the 9-1 victory.
- Alexis Smith threw the entire game for the Rams while improving her record to 2-3 on the season.
How it Happened – Game 2
- The Rams showed no mercy in game two. The bats stayed hot, and they scored eight runs after two innings.
- Bluefield scored in the top of the third after bases was loaded and Zamiah McMillan came in to pinch hit and reached based on an error scoring Emma Crawford to make the score the 8-1.
- An RBI single to centerfield from Alexis Smith gave the Rams a 9-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning and secured the deal for the Rams.
- Kendall Hudson threw four innings for the Rams and Angelina Garcia got the final out in the top of the fifth inning.
The Rams will be back in action for the CIAA Round-Up March 24-26 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Rams will open play against Elizabeth City on March 24 at Walnut Creek Softball Complex at 10 am.
