Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. -The Winston-Salem State softball team totaled four home runs in two games Saturday afternoon during the second day of the CIAA Round-up at Walnut Creek.
Makayla Brown highlighted the day with a two-run home run in both games.
The Rams move to 5-7 after defeating Virginia Union, 3-0 but falling 11-7 to Virginia State. WSSU is now 2-3 in conference play.
Game 1- How it Happened
- After three scoreless innings, the Rams scored two runs after Makayla Brown hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
- SeQuoia Wingfield also hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Rams a 3-0 advantage.
- Alexis Smith threw the entire game and had three strikeouts.
Game 2- How it Happened
- The Rams took an early 1-0 lead after Alexis Smith hit an RBI single to rightfield.
- The Trojans tied the game in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Macy Beville.
- Makayla Brown hit her second two-run homerun of the day in the top of the second inning to give the Rams a 3-1 lead.
- Then, in the top of the third Malia Simmons hit a homerun to give the Rams a 4-1 lead.
- VSU cut into the Rams lead in the bottom of the third and fourth innings scoring two runs making the score 4-3. They then tied the game at 4-4 after Desmyn Owens hit an RBI single to centerfield.
- The Trojans scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-4 lead.
- The Rams got the bats rolling in the top of the sixth tying the game at 7-7 after Alleshia Pullen hit an RBI single, Tymiah Winbush hit an RBI single to right field and Malia Simmons hit an RBI fly-out to centerfield.
- VSU ran away in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring four more runs to finish the game 11-7.
