Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State softball team dropped its home opener on Saturday to Alderson Broaddus at the Twin Cities Ballfield Complex.
The Rams move to 1-4 on the season after falling 8-5 in game one and 6-0 in the late contest.
How it Happened -Game 1
- The Battlers scored first in the top of the first after a double by Bri Sersevic scored Catilin Winkler.
- The Rams answered back scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first after a double from Alycia Cunningham scored base runners Malia Simmons and Kamryn Kirby.
- AB answered back with two more runs in the top of the second to take a 4-2 lead.
- WSSU got things rolling in the bottom of the sixth regaining the lead with two more runs after a double from Alleshia Pullen.
- The Battlers tied it up in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.
- They later scored three runs on five hits in the top of the ninth to increase their lead 8-4.
- The Rams had one more rally left but fell short only scoring one run in the bottom of the ninth to finish the game 8-5.
- Malia Simmons led the way for the Rams going 2-for-4. Alleshia Pullen went 1-for-3.
How it Happened – Game 2
- Even though the Rams had three hits in game two, the momentum was on the Battlers side.
- It was scoreless after two innings, then Grace Sobeck hit a three-run homer for the Battlers giving them an early 3-0 lead.
- Alderson Broaddus added three more runs in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
- The Battlers sealed the deal with two more runs to finish out the game in the top of the sixth after a double from Aly Soblit and a single from Alyssa Cappa advanced the runners on base.

The Rams are back in action next Saturday, March 12 taking on Virginia State in Ettrick, Virigina. The first of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
