Softball Sweeps Fayetteville State in Afternoon Doubleheader

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State softball team end the Bronco's seven-game win streak after defeating them in two games Monday afternoon in a conference matchup at Twin City Complex.

The Rams move to 8-8 (5-3 CIAA) on the season after winning game 1, (2-1), and game 2, (4-3). Fayetteville falls to 12-14 (7-3 CIAA).

How it Happened – Game 1

  • After two scoreless innings, Fayetteville State scored first in the top of the third inning.
  • An RBI fielder choice from Malia Simmons in the bottom of the third tied the game at 1-1.
  • The Rams secured the game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double from Alleshia Pullen to give the Rams the 2-1 victory.
  • Kendall Hudson threw the entire game with two strikeouts and moving to 4-2 on the season.

How it Happened – Game 2

  • The Rams reached the board first in the bottom of the first inning on a single to center field from Malia Simmons.
  • The Bronco's tied the game in the top of the third inning before Simmons hit another RBI to help the Rams regain the lead going into the top of the fourth inning.
  • Fayetteville State scored a run in the top of the fifth inning and sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
  • WSSU's Teanna Davis gave the Rams some insurance with an RBI single to centerfield to increase the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Rams secured their victory on a double-play groundout to the shortstop (Simmons).
  • Alexis Smith pitched the entire game for the Rams recording four strikeouts and moving to 4-6 on the season.

The Winston-Salem State softball team is back in action on Friday, April 15 for another doubleheader against Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte, North Carolina.
