Box Score 2 CHARLOTTE – The Winston-Salem State University softball team sweep Johnson C. Smith Friday afternoon at Biddleville Park.
The Rams move to 10-8 (7-3 CIAA) after winning game one, 13-4, and game two, 13-1.
JCSU falls to 4-11 (3-7 CIAA).
How it happened- Game 1
- The Rams got on board early in the top of the first scoring two runs to take a 2-0 lead.
- JCSU answered in the bottom of the first to bring the score to 2-1.
- In the top of the second, the Rams kept rolling scoring three runs on two hits to take a 5-1 lead.
- The Golden Bulls scored two more runs in the bottom of the second to cut into the Rams lead (5-3).
- WSSU's hitting streak took off in the top of the third, they scored seven more runs on four hits to take a 12-3 lead.
- Johnson C. Smith scored one more in the bottom of the third and the Rams added their final run in the top of the fourth to take the 13-4 victory.
- Kendall Hudson moved to 5-2 on the season after pitching three innings with four strikeouts. Alexis Smith also threw two innings with two strikeouts.
How it happened – Game 2
- The Rams hot streak continued into game two as they scored three runs to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
- The Golden Bulls answered in the bottom of the first scoring one run to cut into the Rams lead.
- The Rams never looked back scoring three more runs in the top of the second including a home run from Alleshia Pullen.
- WSSU scored three more runs in the top of third inning and added four more runs in the top of the fifth inning to secure the 13-1 victory.
- Alexis Smith pitched the entire game improving her record to 5-6 and had a season-high seven strikeouts.
WSSU is back in action on Friday, April 22 hosting St. Augustine's for a doubleheader at Twin City Ballfields Complex. First game is scheduled for noon.
