Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State softball team kept their win streak alive after sweeping St. Augustine's Friday afternoon at the Twin City Ballfield Complex.
The Rams move to 12-8 (9-3 CIAA) after taking game one, 9-5, and game two, 11-6.
St. Augustine's falls to 17-12 (13-5 CIAA).
How it Happened – Game 1
- The Falcon's took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first after Victoria Spoon hit an RBI triple and Madison Poston hit an RBI groundout.
- The Rams answered back in the bottom of the second with their first home run of the afternoon from Breauna Frye to make the score 2-1.
- St. Augustine's added three more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead over the Rams.
- WSSU kept it rolling with another home run from Alleshia Pullen in the bottom of the third to cut into the Falcon's lead. Then the Rams added two more runs in the bottom of the third to finish the inning only trailing by one, 5-4.
- The Rams then tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double from Pullen.
- WSSU took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double from Teanna Davis scoring Alexis Smith.
- Pullen hit her second home run of the day in the bottom of the sixth to give the Rams a 7-5 lead. Insurance runs came from Smith and Davis who both had RBIs in the innings and the Rams secured the game with a score of 9-5.
- Smith pitched the entire game with five strikeouts.
How it Happened – Game 2
- The Rams kept things rolling going into the afternoon doubleheader jumping out to an early 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
- The Falcon's scored two runs in the top of the second inning, trailing 7-2 to the Rams.
- Alleshia Pullen hit a 2 RBI homer in the bottom of the third inning to increase the Rams lead to 9-2. It was also Pullen's third home run of the afternoon.
- SAU scored three more runs in the top of the fourth to cut into the Rams lead, (9-5).
- WSSU answered back in the bottom of the fourth on another RBI double from Teanna Davis. (10-5).
- SeQuioa Wingfield capped the day for the Rams with another home run giving Winston-Salem an 11-5 lead.
- St. Augustine's scored one more run in the top of the sixth to make the final score 11-6.
- Alexis Smith pitched three innings for the Rams with three strikeouts and Angelina Garcia threw four innings with four strikeouts.
The softball team will be back in action tomorrow, April 23 for senior day hosting Claflin at Twin City Ballfields Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm. In between games, the Rams will honor its two seniors, Alleshia Pullen and SeQuoia Wingfield.
