Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – It was a thrilling finish for the Winston-Salem State University softball team as they defeated Fayetteville State Tuesday afternoon to advance to the semifinal round of the CIAA softball tournament.
Alleshia Pullen hit her second home run of the day in the bottom of the seventh to help the Rams (15-10) secure the 3-2 victory over the Broncos (16-17) at Twin City Ballfields.
How it Happened
- The Rams took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. First Alleshia Pullen hit a home run and then Angelina Garcia reached second base on an error scoring Malia Simmons who reached base on a single to right field.
- The Broncos tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third after back-to-back RBI triples.
- Alleshia Pullen hit the walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Rams the 3-2 victory.
- Alexis Smith pitched the entire game with six strikeouts moving to 9-7 on the season.
WSSU is back in action on Friday, May 6 taking on the number one seed Claflin in the semifinal round at RF&P Park in Glen Allen, Virginia. Game time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
