GLEN ALLEN, Va. – It was a tough day for the Winston-Salem State University softball team as they dropped two contests in the semifinals of the CIAA championships at RF&P Park.

To start the morning the Rams fell in a close game to Claflin dropping them to the loser's bracket and they had to play Bowie State. The Rams then fell to Bowie State in the second contest of the day.

The Rams finished the season 15-11 after falling to Claflin 7-5 and Bowie State 11-4.

How it Happened – Game 1

• The Rams scored first in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead over the Panthers.
• Claflin answered back scoring three runs to take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
• Tianna Davis hit an RBI double in the top of the second inning to bring the Rams within one.
• The Panthers added one more run in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead. Then, Alexandria Beavers hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to increase the Panthers' lead to 7-2.
• It was rally time for the Rams going into the top of the seventh. First, Makayla Brown hit an RBI single to cut into the Panthers' lead, then while bases were loaded Breauna Frye reached base on catcher's interference to bring the Rams within two. Tymiah Winbush hit an RBI single to center field giving the Rams five. Claflin then did a pitcher's change and Bre'zhay Chambers ended the rally sitting down the Rams next two batters.
• Alexis Smith pitched the entire game with four strikeouts.

How it Happened – Game 2

• The Bulldogs took an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
• The Rams answered back having bases loaded after Alexis Smith reached base on a single to right field, then Angelina Garcia reached bases on a single to right field, and Alycia Cunningham reached on a bunt; two errors from the Bulldogs while Makayla Brown was up to bat ended up scoring three runs in the top of the fourth inning and the Rams trailed 4-3.
• Bowie State scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to increase their lead to 7-3.
• The Bulldogs added another run in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-3 lead.
• WSSU's Makayla Brown hit an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning to cut into the Bulldogs lead, 8-4.
• BSU then scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the game at 11-4.
• Alexis Smith threw the entire game with one strikeout.
