WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team fell to Mars Hill University Sunday afternoon inside Whitaker Gymnasium in three straight sets (25-17, 25-13, 25-17).
The Rams are now 0-1 on the season, while Mars Hill picked up its first win.
How it Happened
In set one, it was an evenly matched set with back-and-forth action including kills from Rheign Davis and Sanaa Lanier and the Rams went on a 6-2 run to take a 9-7 lead. The Lions answered back with a run of its own, (7-0) to take a 16-11 lead. WSSU added three more points, but Mars Hill kept their momentum and ended the set on a 9-2 run to take the set, 25-15.
In set two, the Lions kept attacking opening with a 6-2 run before a kill from Raven Gray brought the Rams within three. The Lions responded with a 4-0 run and the Rams swung back with a 4-0 run as well bringing the score to 11-7 (Mars Hill). Points were exchanged back-and-forth, but the Lions finished the set with two more runs and a final score of 25-13 to take the set and lead the match 2-0.
In set three, the Rams kept it spicy, keeping the score tied most of the match, then eventually going up by three (14-11) before the Lions took a 12-3 run to win the set 25-17 and the match, 3-0.Â
