WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team defeated Bluefield State in five sets, (24-26, 25-20, 26-24, 17-25, 15-12) inside Whitaker Gymanisum Saturday afternoon.
The Rams move to (2-4, 0-0 CIAA), while Bluefield State moves to (2-7,0-0 USCAA).
Bluefield opened set one on a 4-1 run, then the Rams had a run of it's own to eventually tie the match at 10. They then went on a 7-3 run to take a 17-13 lead over the Big Blue. Bluefield finished the set on a 13-7 run to finish the set 26-24 and take the set 1-0.
The Big Blue opened set two on a 4-1 run before a kill from Jericka Brodie got the momentum to swing in the Ram's favor. Points were exchanged back and forth but it was the Rams to finish the set 25-20 and tied the match 1-1.
The Rams opened the third set on an 11-7 run, but the Big Blue answered back scoring five unanswered points to tie the match at 12. Big Blue ended up going up 21-19 but the Rams finished the set on a 7-3 run to take the set 26-24 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Bluefield State tied the match after winning set four, 25-17 but the Rams sealed the deal in set five winning 15-12 on a final kill by Zoe White.
