Volleyball Falls to Fayetteville in CIAA Opener Thursday Night

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University dropped their league opener against Fayetteville State in three straight sets (25-21, 25-15, 25-12) Thursday night inside Whitaker Gymnasium.

The Rams are now (2-5, 0-1 CIAA) while FSU improved to (2-7, 1-0 CIAA).

How it Happened
Set one begun with the Rams on a 5-1 run before the Broncos scored four unanswered points to tie the match at five a piece. Points were exchanged back and forth before the Rams took a 15-13 lead. The Broncos then went on a 11-3 run to regain the lead. Even though the Rams had the final run at the end of the set it was not enough to catch FSU as they finished the set, 25-21 and took an early 1-0 lead in the match.

It was all FSU in the next two sets. Fayetteville opened set two on a 7-3 run and kept the momentum through the entire set winning 25-15 and taking a 2-0 lead.

WSSU scored two points in the start of set three before FSU went on an 8-2 run and never looked back. A kill from Raven Gray and Kaiah Parker gave a spark for the Rams bringing them within five but FSU regained control and won the set 25-12 and took the match 3-0.
