Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State men's basketball defeated Fayetteville State University 56-55 Saturday afternoon inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
The Rams improved to 13-5 (5-4 CIAA), while the Broncos moved to 11-10 (6-3 CIAA).
Jaylon Gibson led the rams in scoring with 16 points, while
Samage Teel and Ketron "KC" Shaw both added nine points.
Samage Teel also added ten rebounds and four assists on the night.
The Rams started the game on a 6-0 scoring run, but the Broncos were able to limit the damage and tie the game at 17-17 all with 7:58 left to play in the first half. With 4:55 left to play in the first half, the Broncos were up 23-19.
Jaylon Gibson scored six straight points and KC Shaw knocked down two free throws to give the rams a 27-31 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Rams were able to able to build off their momentum from the first half and extend their lead 31-38 after a
Samage Teel three. The Broncos fought back and took the lead with 9:47 left to play after Tyler Foster knocked down a three. The two teams were exchanging baskets for the rest of the game but after an
Isaac Parson midrange jumper and a few defensive stops, the Rams were able to come out on top 56-55.
The Rams will be back in action on Thursday, January 26th hosting Johnson. C. Smith University at 7:30 inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
