Rams lose Three Straight, Fall to JCSU Wednesday Night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Winston-Salem State University fell to Johnson C. Smith 74-71 in overtime inside Brayboy Gymnasium.
 
The Rams moved to 16-8 (8-7 CIAA), while JCSU improved to 9-15 (5-10 CIAA). 

Jaylen Alston led the Rams with 15 points and 10 rebounds while DyQuavis Wilkins added 12 points on the night. Jaylin Parker and Isaac Parson added nine points each and Samage Teel, Jon Hicklin, and KC Shaw all scored seven points. 

Jaylin Parker hit a three with 10:51 to give the Rams a 12-6 lead in the half. The Golden Bulls tied it at 15-all with 8:11 to play in the half. Points went back and forth and after the game was tied at 21, the Golden Bulls took a 26-21 lead with 3:51 to play. A quick layup from Jaylen Alston and a forced turnover from Isacc Parson turned into a made bucket from Samage Teel to bring the Rams within seven 25-32 with 1:53 to go in the half.  The Golden Bulls went into halftime leading by ten, 35-25. 

DyQuavis Wilkins hit a jumper to bring the Rams within six, 37-31 with 16:11 to play in the game. Jaylin Parker hit a three and Wilkins hit a jumper to bring the Rams within ten, 48-38 with 14:14 remaining in the game. Isaac Parson hit a three with 11:15 to play in the game to make the score 45-52. WSSU came within four, 54-50 with 9:30 to play in the game. Isaac Parson hit a lay-up to bring the Rams within two, 60-58 with 5:11 on the clock. With 4:37 left to play the game was tied at 60-all. With 31.9 seconds to play, Jon Hicklin gave the Rams the 66-65 lead over the Golden Bulls. JCSU hit a free throw to send the game into overtime. 

Samage Teel hit a three with 55 seconds remaining in the game to bring the Rams within three, 74-71, but the Golden Bulls came out on top. 

WSSU is back in action on Saturday, February 18th hosting Livingstone College for senior day at 4:00 p.m. inside the Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
