Three Rams Score in Double Figures in Victory over Johnson C. Smith

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team defeated Johnson C. Smith 69-62 inside Brayboy Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
 
The Rams improved to 14-9 (10-5 CIAA), while the Golden Bulls moved to 10-15 (5-10 CIAA).
 
Taniah Simmons finished with a season-high 22 points and nine rebounds, while Kennedi Simmons added 16 on the evening. Hadiya Balser dished in 11 points. Amaya Tucker and Alex Warren had six points each.
 
The Rams opened the first quarter with a 7-2 scoring run before the Golden Bulls tied it at seven with 2:34 remaining in the quarter. The Lady Rams ended the quarter leading 13-11. The Rams begin the second quarter on another scoring run, increasing their lead to 19-11 with 8:28 to play in the half. Prophet Sheffield hit a three-pointer to give the Rams a 30-18 lead with 3:11 left to go in the quarter. The Rams ended the quarter up 37-24.

Kennedi Simmons hit a three to give the Rams a 42-24 lead with 8:59 to play in the third quarter. The Lady Rams closed the quarter leading 58-37.
The Golden Bulls scored two quick baskets to cut into the Rams' lead, 58-41 with 8:42 to play in the game. The Golden Bulls trailed by ten, 58-48 with 6:38 remaining in the quarter. WSSU closed out the game-winning 69-62.

The Rams will close out the regular season on Saturday, February 18th hosting Livingstone College for senior day at 2 p.m. at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
