WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – On a night where records were broken, the Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team cruised past Claflin University in a dominating effort.
The Rams improved to 13-8 (9-4 CIAA), while the Panthers moved to 11-11 (4-9 CIAA).
Jakaiya Mack led all scorers with 18 points and three steals, and Amaya Tucker scored 17 points and four assists. Also, Tainah Wilkins scored 11 points and nine rebounds.
Amaya Tucker is now the all-time three-point leader after hitting two threes in the first half. She now has 163 threes.
The Rams started the game strong jumping out to a 6-14 lead after a Kennedi Simmons jumper with 3:41 left in the first quarter. The Rams led at the end of the first 11-24.
In the second quarter, the rams turned up the defense after an Amaya Tucker steal which led to a Jakaiya Mack layup with 9:32 left in the half. Valencia Carroll came off the bench and provided a great spark with five straight points with 2:02 left to play in the half.
The Rams went into the half with a 22-44 lead.
In the second half, the Rams continued to dominate the Panthers. Hadiya Balser hit a jumper at 9:02 left in the second half to put the rams up 31-63. The rams continued their annihilation over Claflin and outscored them 21-34 in the second half.
The Rams won the game 43-78.
The Rams will be back in action on Saturday, February 11th at Fayetteville State University inside Felton J. Capel Area.
