Box Score 2 Orangeburg, SC – The Winston-Salem State University softball team splits with Claflin University in a high-level contest on Friday, April 28th in Orangeburg, SC.
The Rams moved to 19-11 (12-4 CIAA), while Claflin moved to 24-10 (10-2 CIAA).
How it Happened – Game 1
The Panthers came out the gate early swinging gaining the lead early. Claflin's pitching was able to keep the Ram's bats quiet as Claflin won the first game 8-0.
Julie Manners was the losing pitcher making her 2-2 on the season.
How it Happened – Game 2
The Rams jump to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to RBI singles from
Alycia Cunningham and
Malia Simmons. In the top of the second inning, the Rams extended to 5-0 after a sacrifice fly from
Teanna Davis and a two-run homerun from
Alycia Cunningham. The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the second to make the score 5-2. WSSU responded with a run in the top of the third to make the score 6-2. Claflin answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to one. The Rams held on and won the game 6-5.
Sierra Crocker was the winning pitcher going 7.0 inning making her 7-4 on the season.
