CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announces its 2023 Softball All-Conference teams and superlatives as voted by the CIAA Softball Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association. This year's team is led by CIAA Player of the Year Lindsey George of Bowie State University and CIAA Pitcher of the Year Jaelyn Jackson from Claflin University. The 2022-23 All-CIAA Softball Team was determined by the conference's head coaches and Sports Information Directors.
Winston-Salem State's
Aniyah Jackson claimed the 2023 CIAA Rookie of the Year honors. The West End, NC native batted .325 with six doubles, two triples, and five home runs along with 26 RBIs. She is currently tied for fifth in CIAA in home runs. She has 13 stolen bases this season. Jackson also has 52 putouts so far this season. Aniyah earned CIAA Rookie of the Week honors, for week six after she went 3-for-3 with one triple and five RBIs. In game two, she went 1-for-4 with a triple, RBI and three runs scored against St. Augustine's.
Coach Tiffany Massey has had a great first season as interim coach already surpassing the record from the previous season. They currently sit at 18-10 and 11-3 CIAA. She has coached multiple CIAA weekly honors, including the week eight Rookie of the Week, week five Offensive Player and Pitcher of the Week, and the week four Defensive Player of the Week. Her defense is currently second in fielding. She has also coached the leader in triples, slugging percentage, and on-base + slugging percentage. She also has coached the second leader in the CIAA in doubles.
Winston-Salem State led the conference with nine All-CIAA selections followed by Bowie State and Claflin with eight as well as Virginia State, Lincoln (Pa.), Elizabeth City State with three each, and Shaw with one.
Bowie State's Lindsey George was named Player of the Year and Claflin's Jaelyn Jackson was named Pitcher of the Year.
Also from the Rams, making the All-CIAA First Team were
Taisha Bratton (Catcher),
Aniyah Jackson (second base), and
Alycia Cunningham (third base).
Bratton so far this season has a batting average of .411 and an on-base percentage of .528. She has 23 hits this season with five doubles, seven triples, and four home runs. She has 23 RBIs this year. She also has 67 put-outs so far this season. She is currently second in the league in slugging percentage (.885) and second in on-base percentage (0.548), third in on-base + slugging percentage. She is third in triples.
Cunningham so far this season is batting .448 on the season, leading the team in home runs with five, and is tied for fifth in the CIAA. She also has five doubles this season as well. Alycia has driven in 20 runs this season. She also has a .891 fielding percentage.
On the All-CIAA Second Team were
Malia Simmons (Designated Player), and Sierra Croker (Utility Player).
Simmons, who was also named to the All-CIAA preseason team, is batting .288 on the season. She has 23 hits and four RBIs. She has 34 putouts this year.
On the All-CIAA Rookie team, was
Alicia Carrington and
Aniyah Jackson.
Carrington has been a huge asset for the Rams this season coming in as a freshman in the utility position and stepping up big-time in the circle. She is 6-4 this season with a 2.70 ERA. She has 73.1 innings pitched and has struck out 32 batters. Offensively, she has a.229 batting average, with 16 runs on 8 hits, two triples, and five RBIs.
