RALEIGH, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University softball team won two games against Shaw University on Saturday afternoon at Walnut Creek Park.
The Rams took game one 15-0 and game two, 8-2 to move to 7-18 (6-4 CIAA) on the season.
How it Happened – Game 1
The Rams jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. WSSU continued to dominate the entire game with three more runs in the fourth and then after a Shaw pitching change, they scored 10 runs in the sixth.
Jyla Thomas pitched her first shut-out of the season to move to 3-3. After throwing the entire game she faced 20 batters and tied her season high of ten strikeouts.
How it Happened – Game 2
The Rams continued their roll of domination into the next game with a 3-2 lead through the first 3 innings, by way of 2 stolen bases and a
Miranda Wilson single to third base which advanced Taisa Bratton. The Rams then went on to score 5 more runs throughout the game to ultimately get the win 8-2.
Alicia Carrington pitched 1.0 innings and one strikeout and Steele pitched 5.0 innings with four strikeouts to record the win and move to 4-8.
