Rams Sweeps CIAA Round-Up

Bowie, M.D.  – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team sweeps the final CIAA Round-Up this season. On Saturday, October 18th defeating both Virginia Union & Lincoln (Pa.) 3-0. Then defeating Bowie State 3-0 on Sunday morning. 

The Rams improved to 11-8 (8-2 CIAA) on the season.

Inside the Numbers vs. Virginia Union

How It Happened vs.Virginia Union University  (25-21, 25-21, 25-20)

In set one, a Kalyn Cuthbertson ace gave the Rams a 6-5 lead.  VUU went on a 3-0 run, taking an 8-6 lead. Holiday Ellis tied the game at 13-13 with a kill. The Rams went on a 5-1 run, taking a 20-17 lead on a Holiday Ellis kill. The Panthers answered back, cutting the score to 20-19, on a Rams error. WSSU closed out the set on a 5-2 run, taking set one 25-21. 

In set two, the Rams took an early 3-2 lead with a Holiday Ellis kill. WSSU went on a 5-1 run, taking a 10-7 lead on a Panthers error. A Holiday Ellis kill extended the Rams lead to 15-11. The Panthers chipped the Rams lead to 19-16, on a kill. A Zoe Chesson kill gave the Rams a 23-19 lead. The Rams took set two 25-21.  

In set three, the Rams took a 4-1 lead on a Celina Johnson kill. A Kamiyah Wilson kill extended the Rams lead to 11-5. WSSU went on a 6-2 run, pushing their lead to 17-8 on a Panthers error. VUU went on a 6-0 run, cutting the Rams lead to 18-16 on an ace. The Panthers tied the game at 20-20. WSSU went on a 5-0 run, taking set three 25-20.

In set one, the Rams took a 9-0 lead on a Tiffany Blakley kill. The Rams extended their lead to 16-2, on a Jordin Whitney kill. WSSU closed out the set on a 8-2 run, taking set one 25-4. 

In set two, the Rams took an early 5-2 lead on a Lions error. The Rams extended their lead to 10-5 on a bad set. WSSU went on a 3-0 run, pushing their lead to 17-9 on Holiday Ellis' kill. WSSU closed out the set on a 5-1 run, taking set two 25-13. 

In set three, the Rams took a 4-1 lead on a Celina Johnson kill. The Rams extended their lead to 9-3, on a Celina Johnson kill. The Lions went on a 5-0 run, cutting the Rams lead to 10-9. A Angelica Turnage ace gave the Rams a 12-9 lead. LU tied the game at 13-13 on an ace. The Rams went on a 7-0 run, extending their lead to 20-13 on a Lions attack error. An Lu attack error gave the Rams a 22-14. The Rams took set three 25-17.

WSSU went on a 5-2 run, cutting the lead 14-13 on a Bulldogs attack error. The Bulldogs went on a 4-1 run, extending their lead to 18-14. The Rams went on a 11-2 run, taking set one 25-20.
 

In set two, a Bulldogs error tied the game at 3-3. The Bulldogs went on a 4-1 run, taking a 7-4 lead on a bad set. WSSU went on a 4-1 run, taking a 12-11 lead on Celina Johnson's kill. The Rams took a 17-13 lead on a Bulldogs error. The Bulldogs cut the Rams lead to 19-17 on a Rams error. WSSU closed out the set on a 6-2 run, taking set two 25-19 on a Holiday Ellis kill. 

In set three, a Jordin Whitney kill gave the Rams a 5-2 lead. The Rams extended their lead to 8-3, on a Zoe Chesson kill. WSSU went on a 5-0 run, pushing their lead to 18-6 on a Kamiyah Wilson kill. The Rams took set three 25-16.

The Lady Rams will host Shaw University, on Thursday, October 23rd. The match will begin at 6:00 p.m. inside Whitaker Gymnasium.
