Rams Defeat Claflin in Three Straight Sets Thursday Night

Orangeburg, S.C.  – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team defeated Claflin University 3-0, inside Tullis Arena. 

The Rams improved to 15-9 (12-3 CIAA) on the season.

How It Happened vs.Claflin University (25-17, 25-12, 25-21)

In set one, the Rams jumped to a 3-0 on a Jewel Pitt ace. The Panthers cut the lead to 8-7 on a Rams error. Claflin tied the game at 11-11, on an ace. The Rams went on a 5-0 run, taking a 16-11 lead on a Holiday Ellis kill. WSSU extended the lead to 20-13, on a Panthers error. WSSU took set one 25-17. 

In set two, a Zaria Keys ace gave the Rams a 4-3 lead. The Rams extended their lead to 8-5 on a Panthers error. WSSU extended their lead to 15-8, on a Jewel Pitt kill. The Rams lead grew to 20-9 on Holiday Ellis kill. WSSU took set two 25-12. 

In set three, the Rams took a 4-3 on a Holiday Ellis kill. Claflin took a 7-6 lead on a Rams error. The Rams tied the game at 9-9, on a Jewel Pitt error. The Panthers went on a 3-0 run, taking a 12-9 lead. WSSU went on a 4-0 run, taking a 14-13 lead on a Kamiyah Wilson kill. A Jewel Pitt ace gave the Rams a 21-18. WSSU took set three 25-21.

WSSU will conclude the regular season on Monday, November 10th, hosting Fayetteville State University for Senior Night.  The match will begin at 6:00 p.m. inside Whitaker Gymnasium.
