Box Score 2 MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University softball team fell to Kutztown Friday morning before dropping an afternoon contest to host Mount Olive inside Scarborough Field.
The Rams dropped game one, 3-2 in eight innings, then fell to UMO 10-1 to move to 2-2 on the season.
How it Happened – Game 1
Kutztown scored first in the bottom of the first inning. The Rams got on board in the top of the fifth inning after
Malia Simmons hit a triple tying the game at 1-1. KU took a 2-1 lead after scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning. Simmons hit a double in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game and force extra innings. Kutztown's Emily Heen hit the winning double to win the game for the Bears.
Jyla Thomas pitched 7.1 innings for the Rams, had two strikeouts, and moved to 1-1 on the season.
How it Happened – Game 2
The bats were hot for the Trojans as they scored in every inning starting with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Rams cut into UMO's lead with a run in the top of the second inning to make the score 3-1. UMO answered back with three more runs in the bottom of the second, two in the fourth, and two in the fifth to take the game.
The Rams will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, February 15 taking on Kutztown at 12:30 and UMO at 3:00 p.m on the final day of 2025 UMO Roundup.
