WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University softball team will begin divisional play traveling to Fayetteville State for a doubleheader on Friday, March 28 before hosting Shaw University on Tuesday April 1 at Twin City Ballfields.

Returning for the Rams are sophomores Jyla Thomas, Jai'Nasia Bailey, junior TaKara Ware, seniors Tymiah Wimbush, Malia Simmons, Miranda Wilson and grad student BreAnna Steele.
 
Ram Newcomers
The Rams welcomed in nine newcomers in the offseason: freshman Layla Smith, Nevaeh Cruz, Laniya Rouse, Makayla Vinson, Alanah Applewhite, Micaiah Cooper, Aaliyah Rodriguez, sophomore Tayvionna Poteat and senior Mikynzie King.
 
CIAA Preseason
The Rams was selected to finish fifth in the CIAA Predicted Order of Finish. Malia Simmons and Miranda Wilson was named to the CIAA Preseason Team.
 
CIAA Weekly Awards
Aaliyah Rodriguez and Tymiah Wimbush earned CIAA Weekly awards for week three. Rodriiguez was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Wimbush was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Last Time Out
The Rams competed in the CIAA Roundup going 3-3 at Walnut Creek. They beat Elizabeth City, Bluefield State and Virginia Union before falling to Bowie State, Lincoln (Pa) and Virginia State.

Ram leaders
The Rams are led by Aaliyah Rodriguez with a .409 batting average, .636 sluggage percentage, 11 runs on 18 hits, seven doubles and one homerun. Jyla Thomas has pitched 43.2 innings with 46 strikeouts.
