Greenwood, S.C.  – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team split both games of the Redderson Invitational on Friday.  First, falling to Chowan University 3-0, then later getting their first win of the season. The Rams defeated Young Harris 3-1. 
 
The Rams improved to 1–2 (0-0 CIAA) on the season.

How It Happened vs. Chowan University (25-22, 25-19, 25-20, 25-23)
 
In set one, with the score tied 8-8 the Rams took a 9-8 lead on a Hawk error. With the score 15-13, Chowan went on a 5-0 run taking a 19-13 lead. The Rams went on a 6-0 run, cutting the lead to 24-22 highlighted by a Zoe Chesson kill.  The Hawks would take set one 25-22. 
 
In set two, a Malani Martin kill gave the Rams a 5-4 lead. With the score tied at 10-10 the Hawks went on a 5-0 run, extending their lead to 15-10. Answering back on a 4-0 run, the Rams made the score 18-16 on a Zoe Chesson kill. Chowan closed out the set with a 6-3 run, taking set two 25-19. 
 
In set three, Chowan jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. A Kamiyah Wilson kill tied the score at 7-7. With the score 14-12 the Rams went on a 5-0 run, taking a 17-14 on a Malani Martin kill. The Hawks went on an 8-3 run, going ahead 21-20. Chowan took set three 25-23.

How It Happened vs. Young Harris (25-18, 25-20, 25-23, 25-21)
 
In set one, the Rams tied the score 4-4 on a bad set by the Mountain Lions. Young Harris extended their lead on a 5-0 run, taking a 11-6 lead. Answering back with a 6-1 run, the Rams cut the score to 12-11 on Zoe Chesson kill. With the score tied 13-13, Young Harris went on a 5-0 run, making the score 18-13. The Mountain Lions took set one 25-18. 
 
In set two, Young Harris went on a 4-0 run, taking a 7-3 lead. The Rams answered back as a bad set by the Mountain Lions made the score 13-11 Young Harris. Going on a 4-0 run, the Rams took the lead on a Holiday Ellis kill 16-15. WSSU went on 7-2 run, extending their lead to 24-18 on a Zoe Chesson kill. The Rams took set two 25-20. 
 
In set three, Holiday Ellis tied the game 5-5 on a service ace. The Rams went on a 5-1 run, extending their lead to 10-7 on an attack error. Young Harris went on a 5-0 run regaining the lead 19-18. WSSU closed out the set on a 7-4 run, taking set three 25-23. 
 
In set four, the Rams took a 6-4 lead on a bad set. WSSU extended their lead to 14-10 on an attack error by the Mountain Lions. Young Harris went on a 4-0 run tying the game at 14-14. Going on a 4-1 run, the Rams took a 18-15 lead on a Jordin Whitney kill. The Rams went on a 4-0 run, taking 23-18 on an attack error. WSSU took the set 25-21.
