Volleyball Pick Up First Conference Victory at Fayetteville State Thursday Night

Fayetteville, N.C.  – The Winston-Salem State University volleyball team open-ups conference play defeating Fayetteville State 3-2, inside Felton J. Capel Arena. 

The Rams improved to 4–6 (1-0 CIAA) on the season.

How It Happened vs.Fayetteville State (25-15, 25-23, 25-20, 25-17, 15-11)
In set one, the Rams took an early 6-2 lead on a bad set by FSU. The Broncos went on a 5-0 run, taking a 7-6 lead. FSU extended their lead to 14-9, on a 6-1 run. FSU grew to 21-11 on a service ace. The Broncos took set one 25-15. 

In set two, Holiday Ellis gave the Rams a 4-2 lead with a kill. The Broncos went on 3-0 run, taking a 7-6 lead. Kamiyah Wilson put the Rams back ahead 10-9, on a kill. FSU answered back, extending their lead to 12-10. The Rams fought back with a 5-0 run, regaining the lead 17-15 on a Holiday Ellis  kill. FSU went on a 4-1 run, regaining the lead 19-18.  WSSU closed out the set on a 6-1 run, taking set two 25-23.  

In set three, the Rams took a 3-0 lead on a Kamiyah Wilson kill. With the score tied at 6-6, the Broncos took a 10-6 lead, on a 4-0 run. The Broncos extended their lead to 17-12. WSSU went on 8-1 run, going ahead 20-18 on a Holiday Ellis kill. The Rams took set three 25-20. 

In set four, the Broncos took a 4-1 lead. A Holiday Ellis kill, cut the Broncos lead to 6-5. The Broncos went on a 4-0 run, taking a 12-7 lead.  WSSU went on a 3-0 run, cutting the FSU lead to 14-11 with a bad set. The Broncos extended their lead to 20-14. A Holiday Ellis ace cut the score to 22-17. The Broncos took set four 25-17. 

In set five, the Rams took a 4-1 lead on a Zoe Chesson kill. The Broncos went on a 3-0  run, trying the game at 4-4. WSSU answered back with a 3-0 run, taking a 9-6 lead on a bad set. FSU tried the game at 9-9 with a 3-0 run. WSSU went on a 4-0 run, taking 13-9 lead on a Zaria Keys kill. The Rams took set five 15-11.

The Lady Rams will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, on Monday, September 29th to play Shaw University inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m.
