WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State University softball team fell to Millersville 10-1 and 8-6 on Saturday afternoon at Glenn High School.
The Rams move to 2-2 on the season.
How it Happened - Game 1
Millersville got on the board first in the top of the second inning, taking an early 1-0 lead. They later added six runs in the top of the third to increase their lead to 7-0. The Rams answered back with a run in the bottom of the third on a single from Layla Smith, which advanced the runners. The Marauders sealed the game with three more runs in the top of the fifth.
Jyla Thomas pitched 2.1 innings and had three strikeouts. Koralie Morin threw 2.2 innings and had one strikeout.
How it Happened – Game 2
The Marauders took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a single. Millersville used the big top half of the 4th, taking a 7-0 lead on a single. WSSU caught fire in the bottom of the 5th, scoring four runs, highlighted by a Layla Smith RBI single driving in TaKara Ware, making the score 8-4. An Aaliyah Rodriguez home run cut the lead 8-6 in the bottom of the 6th. The Rams went down in order in the bottom of the 7th.Â
Naveah Cruz pitched 3.1 innings, giving up 13 hits. Jyla Thomas came in relief and pitched 3.2 innings, striking out seven batters and giving up two hits.
The Rams will travel to Salem, Virginia, taking on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in the 2026 Salem Tournament beginning March 14.
