RICHMOND, VA. - The Winston-Salem State University women's flag football team finished the weekend with a 3–1 record after four games of conference play, highlighted by strong defensive performances and key offensive plays.
Winston-Salem State opened competition Friday by defeating the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls 14-7.
Zoey Neal and Eshe Muhammad each recorded touchdown receptions to lead the Rams offensively, while
Tyeisha Gist added an interception on defense to help secure the win.
The Rams later fell to the Virginia Union Panthers 6-0 in their second game of the day. Despite the loss,
Iman Rashid recorded an interception to highlight WSSU's defensive effort.
Winston-Salem State bounced back in dominant fashion on Saturday, shutting out the Livingstone Blue Bears 26–0. The Rams' defense set the tone as
Alani Butler returned an interception for a touchdown and
Jasmine Higgins added two interceptions. On offense,
Chakira Generette connected with Eshe Muhammad on a 50-yard touchdown pass, while
Akeylah James added a rushing touchdown to cap the scoring.
The Rams closed the weekend with a 13–6 victory over the Fayetteville State Broncos. Quarterback
Chakira Generette led the offense with two touchdown passes, finding
Leah Bowman and
Deanna Daniels for scores to secure the win.
With the strong showing, Winston-Salem State improves its record to 5–1 on the season and will return to action on March 20 at Mars Hill. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
