WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Numerous Rams hit home runs Friday afternoon, but the Winston-Salem State University softball team dropped two games to Fayetteville inside Twin City Ballpark.
The Rams are now 5-15, 2-6 CIAA, 0-1 in the south division.
How it Happened – game 1
FSU got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning, but the Rams answered back with three runs to take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Fayetteville added another run in the top of the second and
Ilyana Smith hit a homerun in the bottom of the second inning to increase the Rams lead to 4-2. The Broncos scored four runs in the top of the third inning and the Rams answered back with home runs from
Riley Demers and
Makayla Vinson to tie the game at 6-6. FSU added runs in the fourth and sixth innings before sealing the game with three more runs in the top of the seventh. The Rams fell 11-7.
Koralie Morin pitched 6.0 innings, and Nevaeh Farmer pitched 1.0 innings.
How it Happened – Game 2
Fayetteville scored two runs to take an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game into extra innings. Both teams scored two runs each in the eighth inning to send the game into the ninth inning. The Broncos scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning. WSSU tried to answer back, scoring three runs but ultimately fell 8-7.
Jyla Thomas pitched the entire game and had six strikeouts.
WSSU will be back in action on April 18 at Johnson C. Smith. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
