Charlotte, NC. – The Winston-Salem State University softball team defeated Johnson C. Smith 14-0 and 12-8, Saturday afternoon inside Biddleville Park.
The Rams are now 7-15, 4-6 CIAA, 2-2 South.
How it Happened
The Rams scored six runs in the top of the second inning to take a 6-0 lead over the Golden Bulls. WSSU added another run in the top of the third after
Ilyana Smith hit a single scoring,
Kira Bryant.
Asyah Smith hit a homerun in the top of the fourth to increase the Rams lead to 8-0. The Lady Rams added three more runs in the fourth to increase their lead to 11-0. They finished the game in the fifth inning with three more runs to take the game 14-0.
Koralie Morin picked up the win pitching one inning with two strikeouts.
Jyla Thomas pitched 4.0 innings and had nine strikeouts.
In game two, JSCU got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning before the Rams answered back tying the game 1-1 in the top of the second inning. The Golden Bulls scored three more runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Rams scored another run in the top of the fourth, but the Golden Bulls scored two runs to increase their lead to 6-2. The bats got hot for the Rams in the top of the fifth inning as they scored five runs to take a 7-6 lead. The Golden Bulls would add a run in the sixth inning and seventh inning, but the Rams took the game by scoring two runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh inning to win the game 12-8.
Neveah Cruz pitched 2.0 innings with one strikeout;
Koralie Morin pitched 3.0 innings with six strikeouts and
Jyla Thomas threw 2.0 innings with four strikeouts.
The Rams will be back in action on Friday, April 24 at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
