WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State University softball team dropped Game 1 11-3, then fell 11-6 in Game 2 at Twin City Ballpark.
How it Happened - Game 1
Claflin jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a two RBI double in the top of the 3rd. The Panthers would extend their lead to 9-0 on an RBI double, going to the bottom of the 3rd. The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the 4th, on a Riley Demers home run, making the score 9-1. Koralie Morin hit a two-run home run, cutting the lead to 9-3 in the bottom of the 4th.
Koralie Morin pitched 5.0 innings and had seven strikeouts.
How it Happened – Game 2
The Panthers took an 8-0 lead on a homer in the top of the 2nd. WSSU answered back, cutting the lead to 8-3 on a Makayla Vinson sacrifice fly, scoring Layla Smith in the bottom of the 3rd. Claflin extended their lead to 11-5 on an RBI in the top half of the 5th. A Riley Demers homer cut the lead to 11-6 in the bottom of the 7th.
Jyla Thomas pitched 3.0 innings, giving up five hits. Koralie Morin came in relief and pitched 3.0 innings, giving up three hits.
The Rams will gear up for the CIAA Quarterfinals on May 7 in Orangeburg. South Carolina.
