WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Winston-Salem State University women's volleyball team has been honored with the 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, recognizing the Rams' outstanding academic achievement during the 2025-26 academic year.

WSSU was one of 1,432 collegiate and high school volleyball programs nationwide to receive the honor. The AVCA Team Academic Award recognizes programs that maintain a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.

The recognition adds to an impressive year for the Rams, who were also named 2025 CIAA Co-Southern Division Champions. The award highlights the program's ability to compete at a high level while maintaining a strong commitment to academic excellence.

"It comes as no surprise to see our sport have more than 1,400 teams earn the AVCA Team Academic Award again this season," AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon said in the organization's release.

For WSSU, the honor reflects the high standard set by Ram student-athletes both on and off the court. WSSU Athletics congratulates the women's volleyball program, its coaches, and its student-athletes on earning this national academic recognition.
